If you are feeling overwhelmed, emotionally exhausted, or stuck in patterns that seem impossible to change, you are not alone. Many high-functioning adults carry the weight of unresolved trauma, chronic stress, anxiety, or painful relationship experiences while continuing to meet the demands of everyday life. From the outside, others may see someone who appears capable and successful, yet internally you may feel anxious, disconnected, burned out, or caught in cycles that leave you questioning your worth, your relationships, or your direction in life.
Healing from trauma and emotional pain often requires more than simply trying to “think differently.” When individuals experience distressing or overwhelming events, the nervous system and the brain can hold on to those experiences long after the event itself has passed. Therapy can help create the space and support necessary to process those experiences and move forward with greater clarity and emotional balance.
Dr. Tracy Meyer is the Founder and Clinical Director of Mid Atlantic Trauma Recovery, a trauma-informed counseling practice located in Linthicum, Maryland. Her work focuses on helping adults recover from trauma, anxiety, narcissistic abuse, and complex life stress so they can develop emotional stability, confidence, and a renewed sense of purpose. Dr. Meyer provides counseling for adults in Anne Arundel County and also offers secure telehealth sessions for clients throughout the state of Maryland.
Dr. Meyer works with adults who may be navigating a wide range of emotional challenges. Many of the individuals she works with struggle with trauma, anxiety, panic, depression, relationship distress, or emotional exhaustion that has developed over time. Others come to therapy after recognizing that unresolved childhood experiences or difficult relationships continue to affect how they view themselves and interact with others.
Through therapy, clients begin to understand how past experiences may still influence their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. As this awareness develops, individuals can begin to shift patterns that once felt automatic or unavoidable. The goal of therapy is not only to reduce symptoms, but also to help individuals reconnect with a stronger sense of identity, resilience, and direction in their lives.
Dr. Meyer integrates Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, commonly known as EMDR therapy, into her trauma-informed work with clients. EMDR is a well-researched, evidence-based treatment that helps the brain process unresolved memories and emotional experiences that may be contributing to anxiety, distress, or reactivity in the present.
When traumatic or overwhelming experiences occur, the brain may store those memories in a way that keeps the emotional intensity active. EMDR helps the brain reprocess those memories so they become less distressing and no longer trigger the same emotional or physical reactions.
Many individuals who participate in EMDR therapy find that memories which once felt overwhelming gradually lose their intensity. As this process unfolds, clients often experience greater emotional stability, improved confidence, and a stronger sense of control over their lives.
A significant portion of Dr. Meyer’s work focuses on helping individuals recover from emotionally manipulative or psychologically harmful relationships. Narcissistic abuse can deeply affect a person’s sense of identity, confidence, and trust in others. Many individuals leave these relationships feeling confused, self-critical, and emotionally drained.
Therapy provides a space to understand patterns such as gaslighting, manipulation, and emotional control while also rebuilding self-trust and healthy boundaries. Through this process, individuals can begin to reclaim their voice, restore their confidence, and develop healthier relationship dynamics moving forward.
For individuals who desire it, Dr. Meyer offers faith-integrated counseling. Many people navigating trauma, grief, or major life transitions also wrestle with questions related to faith, purpose, or spiritual identity. Therapy can provide a thoughtful and supportive space to explore these questions while integrating psychological insight with spiritual reflection. Faith integration is always optional and guided by each client’s preferences.
I became a therapist because I believe every person deserves a place where their story is heard, understood, and treated with compassion. Many people carry the weight of trauma, anxiety, relationship challenges, or major life transitions for years before reaching out for help. My work is centered on helping individuals understand their experiences, develop new insights, and move toward healing and growth.
At MATR Counseling, I work with adults navigating a wide range of challenges, including trauma, anxiety, ADHD, relationship struggles, and significant life transitions. Many clients come to therapy feeling overwhelmed, emotionally exhausted, or stuck in patterns they cannot seem to change. Together, we explore how past experiences and current stressors influence emotions, relationships, and sense of self.
I also have a passion for supporting women through major life transitions, including perimenopause, menopause, divorce, and life after loss. These seasons of life can bring unexpected emotional shifts, identity changes, and relationship challenges. Therapy can provide a supportive space to process these experiences and develop new ways of navigating them with confidence and clarity.
In addition, I work with adults with ADHD, many of whom have spent years feeling misunderstood or struggling with focus, emotional regulation, and overwhelm. Through therapy, we focus on practical strategies, self-understanding, and building systems that help individuals thrive both personally and professionally.
My approach integrates evidence-based treatments including EMDR therapy, trauma-informed care, cognitive behavioral strategies, and attachment-focused work. When clients desire it, I also incorporate faith and Christian counseling as part of the healing process.
Ultimately, I do this work because I believe healing is possible. When people feel safe enough to explore their story, they can move from simply surviving to creating a life that feels meaningful, balanced, and whole.
