Mid Atlantic Trauma Recovery (MATR) offers a rich, immersive clinical training experience designed to prepare emerging clinicians for licensure and meaningful, sustainable careers in mental health. Our internship program provides students with the opportunity to engage in purposeful clinical work while developing strong clinical judgment, confidence, and professional identity.
Interns at MATR work with diverse client populations and are entrusted with meaningful clinical responsibilities in a supportive, structured environment. Through hands-on experience, interns build practical skills in assessment, treatment planning, documentation, and the delivery of evidence-based, trauma-informed interventions. Our clinical focus emphasizes recovery from trauma and abuse, with care grounded in safety, attunement, and ethical practice.
What sets MATR apart is our commitment to mentorship, collaboration, and intentional supervision. Interns receive personalized supervision and guidance tailored to their developmental needs, with exposure to advanced therapeutic modalities and trauma-focused approaches. We value reflective practice and encourage interns to cultivate their own therapeutic voice while maintaining fidelity to clinical standards and best practices.
At MATR, interns are not simply observing—they are contributing to real healing and growth. Through their work, interns make a meaningful impact in the lives of clients while laying a strong foundation for competent, compassionate, and fulfilling careers in the mental health field.
Internships at Mid Atlantic Trauma Recovery extend beyond minimum academic requirements and are designed to provide immersive, trauma-focused clinical training. Interns are expected to commit to the following:

Commitment to ethical, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive care, including practicing with cultural humility and awareness of systemic factors impacting mental health
Willingness to challenge practices that perpetuate harm and to uphold equity, inclusion, and social responsibility in clinical work
