If you’re feeling overwhelmed, anxious, emotionally exhausted, or stuck in patterns that you can’t seem to change, you’re not alone. Many people silently struggle with anxiety, trauma, relationship stress, or self-doubt while trying to keep up with the demands of everyday life.
You may feel like you're carrying the weight of everything on your own. Perhaps you’ve tried to push through the stress, hoping things would eventually get better. But when emotional challenges continue to build over time, it can begin to impact your confidence, relationships, motivation, and overall wellbeing.
Reaching out for support can feel intimidating, but it is also one of the most courageous and empowering steps you can take toward healing.
As a therapist, Kiara Hopson strives to create a safe, welcoming, and nonjudgmental space where clients feel supported in exploring their experiences and building meaningful change in their lives. Her goal is to help individuals gain insight into their thoughts and behaviors, develop healthier coping skills, and move toward a life that feels more balanced, confident, and fulfilling.
Kiara provides trauma-informed counseling for adults and young adults at Mid Atlantic Trauma Recovery in Linthicum, Maryland, and also offers secure online therapy for clients throughout Maryland.
Kiara works with individuals who may be experiencing a variety of emotional or life challenges, including anxiety, depression, trauma, and relationship difficulties. Her approach focuses on helping clients build awareness, increase emotional regulation, and develop healthier perspectives and behaviors.
Living with anxiety can feel exhausting. You may find yourself constantly worrying about the future, overthinking conversations, struggling to relax, or feeling overwhelmed by everyday responsibilities. Over time, anxiety can begin to affect your ability to focus, rest, and fully engage in the things that matter most in your life.
Anxiety can appear in many different forms. Some individuals experience constant worry or racing thoughts that make it difficult to quiet their minds. Others may feel on edge throughout the day, easily overwhelmed by stress or responsibilities. Anxiety can also affect concentration, create irritability or emotional exhaustion, and interfere with healthy sleep. In some cases, individuals may experience panic attacks or physical symptoms of stress such as tightness in the chest, rapid heart rate, or difficulty breathing.
Through therapy, Kiara helps clients better understand the connection between their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Together, you will explore the patterns that contribute to anxiety while developing practical coping strategies and emotional regulation skills. The goal of therapy is to help you reduce the intensity of anxious thoughts, regain a sense of balance, and build confidence in your ability to navigate life’s challenges.
Many individuals carry the impact of past experiences long after the events themselves have passed. Trauma can influence how we see ourselves, how we relate to others, and how we respond to stress in our daily lives. Even when people try to move forward, unresolved trauma can continue to shape emotional reactions, relationship patterns, and a person’s sense of safety in the world.
Kiara works with individuals who are navigating the effects of childhood trauma, intergenerational trauma, emotional neglect, relationship trauma, and other significant life stressors. These experiences can leave lasting emotional imprints that affect self-worth, trust, and the ability to feel grounded or secure.
Her goal is to help clients identify patterns that may be keeping them stuck while gently supporting them in developing healthier ways of thinking, coping, and responding to life’s challenges. Trauma-informed therapy creates a safe environment where individuals can begin to understand how past experiences influence their present emotions and behaviors. Through this process, clients are empowered to move toward healing, greater self-awareness, and meaningful personal growth.
Low self-esteem and persistent negative self-talk can quietly affect many areas of life, including relationships, career decisions, and overall emotional well-being. Many individuals carry internal messages such as believing they are not good enough, feeling like they always make mistakes, or assuming they will disappoint others.
Over time, these beliefs can shape how individuals see themselves and how they interact with the world around them. When negative thought patterns become deeply ingrained, they can limit confidence, create anxiety in relationships, and make it difficult to pursue personal goals.
Through counseling, Kiara helps clients recognize and challenge these patterns of thinking while developing a more compassionate and balanced relationship with themselves. Therapy provides space to explore where these beliefs originated and how they continue to influence daily life.
As self-awareness and emotional insight grow, many individuals begin to experience increased confidence, improved decision-making, and healthier relationships with others. The process of strengthening self-esteem allows clients to feel more empowered, grounded, and aligned with the life they want to create.
Kiara also works with couples who are experiencing challenges in their relationship and want to rebuild connection, trust, and communication. Many couples come to therapy feeling stuck in repetitive patterns of conflict, emotional distance, or misunderstanding, unsure how to move forward together.
Over time, these patterns can create frustration, disconnection, and a sense of being unheard or unsupported within the relationship. Even when both partners want things to improve, it can be difficult to break these cycles without guidance.
Couples counseling provides a space where both partners can slow down, feel heard, and begin to understand the deeper dynamics influencing their relationship. Kiara helps couples identify patterns of communication, explore underlying emotions, and develop healthier ways of expressing needs, resolving conflict, and supporting one another.
Through this process, couples can move away from blame and defensiveness and toward greater understanding, emotional safety, and collaboration. Many partners find that therapy not only helps resolve current challenges but also strengthens their connection and creates a more secure and fulfilling relationship moving forward.
Kiara believes therapy should be collaborative, empowering, and tailored to each individual’s unique experiences and goals.
She integrates several evidence-based therapeutic approaches in her work with clients, including:
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
CBT helps individuals identify and challenge unhelpful thought patterns that contribute to anxiety, depression, and stress. By reframing these thoughts, clients can develop healthier perspectives and emotional responses.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
DBT skills help clients improve emotional regulation, develop mindfulness, and build healthier coping strategies when navigating difficult emotions or stressful situations.
Person-Centered Therapy
Kiara places strong emphasis on creating a supportive and affirming environment where clients feel heard, respected, and understood. This approach helps individuals feel empowered to explore their experiences and make meaningful changes.
Her approach focuses on compassion, cultural awareness, and collaboration, recognizing that every person’s journey toward healing is unique.
Kiara Hopson’s journey into the mental health field began more than a decade ago when she first entered the human services profession.
She earned her Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies with concentrations in Social Work and Psychology, and later obtained her Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Coppin State University.
As a native of Baltimore City, Kiara understands firsthand how environmental stressors, community challenges, and family dynamics can shape mental health and personal development. Growing up in a fast-paced urban environment inspired her passion for supporting individuals who are navigating adversity, trauma, and life transitions.
In addition to her professional experience, Kiara is also a mother of a toddler and a teenager, which gives her a deep appreciation for the complexities of balancing personal responsibilities, emotional wellbeing, and family life.
Her experiences have strengthened her commitment to helping others build resilience, confidence, and healthier coping strategies.
One of Kiara’s priorities as a therapist is helping clients feel comfortable enough to openly explore their thoughts, emotions, and experiences. She understands that beginning therapy can feel vulnerable, and she works intentionally to create a space where individuals feel safe, respected, and genuinely heard.
Kiara strives to build a therapeutic relationship that is warm, supportive, respectful, honest, and collaborative. She believes that meaningful progress happens when clients feel understood and supported while also being encouraged to explore new perspectives and develop healthier patterns.
This foundation allows clients to feel safe as they work through personal challenges and begin developing more effective ways of navigating life’s difficulties. Through this collaborative process, clients often gain greater self-awareness, emotional clarity, and confidence in their ability to handle stress and relationships.
Kiara believes that even when individuals feel stuck, overwhelmed, or unsure of where to begin, meaningful change is possible with the right support and guidance. Therapy can be a place where people rediscover their strengths, build resilience, and move toward a more balanced and fulfilling life.
